“Meet Your Meat” – My Response To Choseveg.com

So, you just watched the video above. What did ya think… pretty gruesome? Definitely. Pretty shocking? For sure. Does it change your opinion on meat consumption? For me the answer is leaning towards no, and here’s why…

The info in that video is a wakeup call, no doubt, but the solution proposed by chooseveg.com is both erratic, unrealistic and quite frankly, retarded. Do they really think that long time meat lovers will just GIVE UP eating meat? Do they really think that you can substitute all the nutrients such as protein, creatine & iron from meats by switching to vegetables over-night? They must be out of their minds.

Their proposition is a band-aid solution which completely ignores the problem at hand. It’s like saying “Oh damn… were out of oil, oh well let’s just stop using fast-moving transportation such as cars, buses and planes and everyone hop on a bicycle”

Let’s take a look at the impact this will have on everyone if people switch to eating meat over night. First of all, the economic impact will be huge… And in more than one way. For starters, the restaurants will take a huge hit. They will all be forced to change their menus to a vegan lifestyle and will not buy anymore meat. Grocery stores will wrap up the deli section and instead stock more… Bread sticks?

Butchers will go out of business and will have to start cutting up celery in creative ways. Slaughter houses will shut down and lay off all of their employees. The cattle farms will then have two options: shut down or convert to a dairy & egg producing farm . In the end, the whole meat industry will collapse.

Another thing, people’s expenses will be driven up. How? Because everyone is going to be lacking in essential nutrients that you get from meat. This means they will fall for claims made by SMART pharmaceutical and supplement companies that will take advantage of the situation and provide the ultimate solution in the form of pills & powders.

On the upside, cattle farms will slowly but surely be converted to growing crops and such. You might think that this will balance itself out, but I’m not so sure about that.

And finally… You will have people like me who will be very, VERY pissed off with the lack of meat on my dinner plate. And when FJ get’s pissed off sh*t goes down. Well… Something like that.

Now I know that’s a very bird’s eye view of the situation… In fact, it’s more like a satellite shot from outer space, but whatever. You get the point. So what can be done? Obviously what you saw in that video cannot be ignored. Is there a happy balance?

OFCOURSE there is. The people at the FDA, FFF, F2… Whatever regulation companies that exist, need to post STRICT standards as far as animal care is concerned. I don’t want to eat eggs from a chicken that has puffy eyes. I don’t want to eat beef that comes from a cow so overgrown by steroids that it can’t walk. I don’t want to eat a turkey that has been smacked across the face by a 2×4. And I definitely don’t want to eat any meat from an animal that has been DENIED veterinary care… (what the f*ck were they thinking on that one!?)

I want to eat my meat and eggs from animals that have been naturally grain fed, allowed to breathe fresh air, and have had the space to roam around, run, and develop their muscles naturally. And seriously, this cannot be THAT hard to accomplish… Because it’s how they USED to do it in the good ol’ days.

Instead of boycotting meat all together, we need to boycott the specific farms and request our butchers, grocery stores and restaurants to buy meat from slaughter houses which meet strict requirements and which buy meats from famers that have some serious common sense.

This way, we can have a perfectly balanced meal on our plates. A nice thick cut of bbq steak with a side of sautéed vegetables, seasoned to perfection along with a glass of fine wine. All the while knowing that what we are chewing on is natural goodness. Wouldn’t that be something?

It can be done, but it has to start with:

1. People taking the proper action and raising awareness to the regulatory companies or companies that are making the end decision (such as grocery stores, distributors etc). Don’t bother with farmers individually. You need to bottle neck them into taking the proper action either legally or by hurting their pockets.

Now I know farmers are hurting financially, don’t make that much money, feel ignored… Well no sh*t! If they adhere to these practices, they should go bankrupt! They work hard, but they need to work smart. In fact they can be richer than they think. We live in a world of web2.0. Video proof travels fast, SO BE SMART & BE TRANSPARENT. People trust that.

Farmers, if McDonalds won’t buy your meat since it’ll cost a bit more because you put time and effort into making sure your animals are fed properly and naturally… Go talk to a local news station, then leverage Facebook and food blogs. Let’s see how long it takes for them to smarten up once people realize that the Big Macs they are eating come from sick cows.

2. Letting extremists such as chooseveg.com to open their eyes to the situation, raising awareness and suggesting a reasonable and though-out solution. Did you see my solution to the problem? Took me 10 minutes to come up with it. Imagine what a bunch of people can come up with, sitting in a meeting room while tapping into their reasonable level of intelligence. Shocking!

3. Advertising properly. Labels are the sh*t! There is no faster way of letting the public know that something is trust worthy than by having a label on a meat or dairy product which comes from a reputable company. I know certain ones exist… But those are profit driven, and after watching the video above, how in the world can you have any trust behind them?

That’s it! 3 steps… Three friggin’ steps to ensure that the meat we eat meets proper standards. Don’t be lazy, do your part. Email, phone and/or write to your government to raise awareness. Remember, focus your efforts where it will have the BIGGEST impact, on the bottle neck of the industry. Soon enough, we can have them by their throats (no pun intended).

As you all know, I can spit out the required verbage, so don’t think I’ll be sitting around doing nothing. I will be firing off my 2 shiny cents where required. Hope you do the same. In the end, it will only do us ALL some good, and isn’t that something to look forward to…

I liked reading this & your ideas. I wish there was a way to force regulations & strict requirements period! With all the food borne illness stories lately, you would think someone would be trying to do more. Hopefully more people will follow your lead!

Well, I would add that grass-fed meat is the best. It’s higher in Omega-3′s and tastes better. And I feel better knowing the cows had a good life eating grass in a field all day. Also, try to buy organic meat as much as possible. They have certain requirements for that label and insures the meat is safer. Buy your meat at Whole Foods!

Yes, if you can find meat in store shelves that has been grown organically… SUPPORT THOSE FARMERS OR BRANDS! Pay the extra $2 you numnut!

When the corporate morons from the other companies notice where the flow of money is going (towards REAL meat), the shit in their brain will start to click.

Great post! I couldn’t agree more! The truth about these factory farms is sickening but at the same time it’s unrealistic to think everyone would or could go vegetarian. Your solution is bang on-REGULATIONS! Not just for our health, but for the animals sake.

Hi, I really like your idea of protesting against the companies that does this to the animals. But don´t you realise that it´s because we humans are consuming to much meat that this has gone so far?
At the same time I realise that the vegetables wouldn´t cover the need of food we all need. But if some people goes vegetarian, the meat consumtion would get smaller and the companies would get more money by treating the animals better. I love meat, but I don´t eat it anymore, because I think that we have to do something against the animal torture.

We might be consuming a lot more than we use to but “too much”?… maybe not. I’m pretty sure they released some facts where it was stated that US has enough food available to eliminate world hunger.

If meat consumption gets smaller, how do meat companies have MORE money to treat their animals better? They don’t. Less sales = less money.

What they need to do (or we need to do) is REALLOCATE the flow of money to where it’s being used responsibly. If we boycott them all together, we aren’t helping because then they start to lose profits, and when they start to lose profits, that’s when shit starts to get ugly…

Because now they have to cut costs during processing, and people start to lose jobs… and were right back where we started. Actually, we might even be worse off.

If the meat market get smaller the money will get to the company that treats their animal better. Because if they don´t, noone will eat their meat and other companies will get the money instead.

And how do you think it´s possible to “reallocate” the flow of money in todays “big flows”…. The company wouldn´t change how they treat the animal just because someone told them to. And if there were laws against treating anmals that way, they would just sell the meat to other people.

Do you really think that it´s better to treat the animal the way they do, than the ones treating the animal that way are without jobs? Don´t you think the animals have feelings? Would you like to be born lika a milk cow?

And if god created the animal for the reason of them being eaten, why didn´t he make meat flowers instead? Yes, yes I do realise that without the animal we shouldn´t be what we are today. But now we don´t have to eat meat to survive, we are humans for gods sake. Why can´t we just stop looking for money in “animals and humans”(selling and buying)??

“If the meat market get smaller the money will get to the company that treats their animal better…”

          >>> Yes I already stated that. The flow of cash will change once people change their buying habits.

“And how do you think it´s possible to “reallocate” the flow of money in todays “big flows”…. The company wouldn´t change how they treat the animal just because someone told them to…”

          >>> Pfft, when the fuck did I say to “TELL THEM” Verbally? Screw that, we have to speak with our wallets more than our voices. A point I clearly already tried to make.

“Do you really think that it´s better to treat the animal the way they do…”

          >>> Again, when the hell did I say this? I didn’t. Please check your facts.

“And if god created the animal for the reason of them being eaten, why didn´t he make meat flowers instead?”

          >>> Uh.. lol wtf? Were you trying to be funny or are you serious? That statement is too retarded to deserve a response.

you are just concerned about nice ways of slaughtering animals, you are not concerned about their lives, bonding, emotions. Humans are miserable selfish creatures on this planet

Yes that is correct, I AM concerned about HOW my meat is cut.

As for their lives and emotions? Get real. Humans are omnivores… you think our prehistoric ancestors gave a shit about emotions? No

Do you think a Lion gives a shit when it bites the neck of a zebra? No. Eating flesh is part of the circle of life. A zebra is naturally vegetarian, we are NOT.

You have been conditioned by pin-headed tree huggers, please wake up. Eating proper, natural and grain fed meat that has gone through a clean slaughter process has more benefits than you can imagine.

As for the selfish part. Yeah I agree… we are selfish as fuck. But you are only seeing one side of the coin. Selfishness is partially needed for survival.

Great article for everyone to read. I think this information needs to be more widely broadcasted for the sake of our nation’s farmers and the rest of us.

If everyone here hasn’t already seen the documentary, “Food, Inc.”, I encourage you all to see it. It is very much like the video seen in this article, except it includes a much more thorough view at where our food comes from.

Here’s a wikipedia link to the film:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food,_Inc.

Again, great article. Keep on writing!

According to surveys, quite a few people have reduced or stopped their meat intake after watching “Meet Your Meat” as well as the many undercover videos that show horrid cruelty and suffering in slaughterhouses, factory farms, and hatcheries. It\s a wake-up call.

Add to that the mounting studies showing the adverse of affect of livestock grazing and meat productron on the environment, the growing ranks of vegan champion athletes, the myriad studies linking meat and dairy consumption to heart disease , diabetes, arthritis, osteoporosis, prostate cancer, pancreatic cancer, and breast cancer, and the surge of delicious plant-based meat and dairy subsitututes, such as coconut milk ice cream and Field Roast sausage, and it\s clear that an animal-free diet is the way to go for ethical, environmental, and health reasons. It has never been easier to ditch the cruelty and unhealthiness of animal products. Resources abound on the web on how to make a satisfying, healthy transition.

I don’t believe you should give up meat entirely just because some people are cruel to animals. I buy on line so I know where my meat is coming from . I buy my beef on line in bulk so compensate for enpensive costs. I love steak recipes with an international twist, but my favorite recipes have come from LaCense Beef. Though I now work for them, they honestly offer some truly tasty recipes, as well as some really delicious grass fed beef you can order. I would definitely recommend them.
