In my opinion, the goal of a pre-workout supplement is simple – to let you crank out extra reps with a heavier load without making you shit your pants, give you an upset stomach or make you jitter like a chipmunk that went on a coffee spree. It’s one category that still hasn’t been “mastered” yet. At least not in my opinion. Some products have come mighty close in the past, but for some reason missed the mark.

So today we’ll take a look at Cell Rush from AAEFX. While it’s not exclusively a pre-workout supplement, the ingredients definitely portray a different idea. Let’s check out the official word before we dig deeper…
Product Claims:
When you take a shot of this formula before, after, or even during training…you get a major “Cell Rush®”! Your cells are being fed with not just 1, but 2 of the most potent compounds available today:
1. Kre-Alkalyn® EFX: Kre-Alkalyn® EFX is “buffered” creatine that does not convert into creatinine prior to reaching skeletal muscle tissue. The unique “buffering” agents in Kre-Alkalyn® EFX effectively mop up excess Hydrogen ions and keep them from lowering its pH. In other words, it gives this creatine the ability to resist changes in pH that it normally wouldn’t have. This protects the creatine molecules during transport – delivering them intact to the bloodstream so they can reach your muscle cells with 100% potency.
2. Dextro-Cyclodized™ Beta-Alanine: This compound has been suggested in multiple studies to increase endurance while also buffering excess hydrogen ions. Studies aside… if you’ve ever used Beta-Alanine, you’ve already experienced its power to increase your overall performance and recovery. Now we’ve developed a “supercharged” version. Using our Dextro-Cyclodized™ technology, we’ve increased its ability to penetrate body tissues and reach your muscle cells intact. The result is that YOU crank out more reps, more weight and bounce back quicker from your own “bone-crushing” workouts. In fact, we hear the same thing over and over again from Cell Rush®! users: They‘ve NEVER felt anything like it before – this fast! All that from just one “shot” of Cell Rush®!
First Impressions:
This seems to be another “liquid” product from AAEFX, and just like the LBA PRO counterpart, it comes in attractive blue packaging featuring legend bodybuilder Mr. Flex Wheeler. Coolio. I quite liked the bottle, until I found out that over time the cap itself isn’t exactly sealed properly. It leaks a bit, which is something that needs to be looked at. Below is a shot of the bottle cap of my LBA PRO bottle and as you can see, the edges are all enamoured with product. Since the liquid was thick, the spill wasn’t anything to cry home about, but a rather odd inconvenience. CELL RUSH seems to use the same type of cap on it’s bottle… so I gota be careful.

Enough bitching, let’s take a look at what’s inside…

So this product is basically two awesome ingredients that have shown a lot of promise (Creatine – Kre Alkalyn to be exact, and Beta Alanine) along with some proprietary delivery systems thrown in for good measure. You know, so you don’t end up with expensive pee. It’s nice to know that AAEFX is making sure what you take is actually being absorbed.
Let’s talk about the dosage. 1.5g of Kre-Alkalyn seems to be the standard across the board. This stuff has 1.5g per Tbsp and even a suggested serving of their pills has 1.5g. It’s tried and true and it works, but what about the Beta-A?
Well as far as studies go, Beta-A has shown a lot of promise, but not at such a low dose. Like creatine, Beta-A needs to be:
1. Loaded over time
2. Taken in doses at around 5-7g/day (though creatine monohydrate can go as high as 10g)
For those of you unfamiliar with Beta-A, here’s a simplistic explanation of how it works: People who workout with heavy ass shit and hardcore intensity tend to have higher levels of Carnosine in their muscles. Those that have higher Carnosine levels in their muscles are able to prevent the drop in pH (since Carnosine buffers H+ ions) allowing them to crank out more reps. Remember, lactic acid is our enemy, so the longer you can delay it’s effects, the better.
But, there is a point where your natural Carnosine levels will plateau, even if you’ve been training for years and the only way to increase them is by supplementation. This is where Beta-A comes in. Beta-A is a precursor to Carnosine synthesis, and it’s also “rate limiting”… which means without Beta-A, your body cannot product Carnosine.
There! In 2 paragraphs I’ve managed to explain how this complex process works for you all. Hardcore nerds and Sport Scientists are probably cringing at my over-simplification. Whatever.
So needless to say, I was a little disappointed to see such a pea amount of Beta-A in the product. Still, it’s in there so I guess I should be happy. It’s just gona take longer to load… fuck I hate waiting. Now on the other side of this argument is AAFEX’s delivery systems. Remember, it’s how much you absorb that counts. But even if this were true, the dosage is still too small… so you really can’t bargain with that point.
Real World Results:
It’s no secret that I always have a supply of the “purple pills” handy. Ever since I tried them, I keep them stocked along with some regular monohydrate to switch things up every few months. The results are nothing short of awesome. So what happens when you take some kick ass creatine along with some Beta-A?
Not much.
Well, at least not at first. This product was a little weird… you can kind of feel the very first dose “hit” you, but the effects are un-dramatic till AFTER a week of constant use. I took 2 servings a day for 2 weeks and without question, the workouts during week 2 completely dominated the ones from week 1. Now, progressive overload and recovery from workouts is one thing, but upping your weight by 10-20lbs in the span of 7 days in most exercises is a whole different story. Specially when you’ve been training for a while.
The bottle itself tells you to take 1 serving post-workout and one serving at night on non-training days. Screw that, my suggestion is to take it pre and post workout and take one serving in the morning and one at bedtime on non-training days… just to load up the Beta-A quicker. But this is for advanced athletes… if you’re a beginner, then you should follow the suggested directions.
Weight training aside, it’s also particularly useful during other types of physical activity. I personally do power tumbling and took 2 servings before my 2 hour session and was quite surprised at how many passes per hour I managed to pull off. Granted, this was after 2 weeks of taking it consistently so the “loading” phase was well in it’s prime stages. The study done on Beta-A had a duration of 4 weeks if I remember correctly… which I probably do.
Taste:
Good-Awkward-Good.
That’s the process you’ll go through every time you take CELL RUSH. When it first hits your tongue, it tastes like the cheap, hard lemon candy you used to get on Halloween as a kid… which is not necessarily a bad thing. But then you get this very “cough syrup medicine” taste in your mid/end pallet. But here’s the kicker… as soon as you swallow it, the after-taste completely vanishes. I mean completely.
It’s like… you can’t even remember you took something with some kind of taste 5 seconds ago. When I drink coffee, I know I’ve had a cup even after 10 minutes has passed because of the taste and aroma that lingers. When I drink beer, I know I drank a pint because the flavor stays… but when I take this stuff, it leaves no traces behind. I like that. The last thing I want is to remember the taste of some supplement roaming around in my mouth. Screw that. Well done AAEFX.
Conclusion:
Ok, so the dosage is a little low, and it takes some time to load… but the ingredients are sound and the product works. You WILL workout harder and provided your protein intake is good, you will recover quicker, there is no question. My soreness levels were also cut down by a fair margin.
All this begs the question… should you buy some? Well that depends all on how much it costs.
At $19.97, you get 31 servings per 16OZ bottle. That’s $0.64 per serving which includes creatine and beta-a… that is pretty bangin’ to say the least. Not to mention the fact that the bottle comes in a convenient size and it’s pre-flavored so you don’t need to mix it yourself. Just press the lid, tilt the bottle and pour on tongue, it’s that simple. If you want to be anal, you can always bust out the measuring spoon… I did that for the 2 weeks but at this point I don’t even bother. I just eyeball that shit.
I think I’ve just found my future creatine replacement… I’ll definitely be picking up a few bottles. I score it 4.3/5 stars, while also giving it my:
