Whey protein is nothing new… in fact it’s been around for a while now, but supplement companies are still trying to find newer and more creative ways to make it taste good. Whether it’s by masking the chalky-ness with fillers such as sugar or sprinkling it into candy bars or by solidifying it into crisps. Whey protein will never change, but it’s delivery process will only keep getting more and more creative… or insane. Whatever you wana call it.
For those that care about pleasing their tastebuds, today I’ll be reviewing the Supreme Protein Carb Conscious Bars. Before I even got these bars, I realized there was some serious buzz surrounding them on the net’. Most have told me it was the best tasting bar they’ve ever tried etc. Whatever, I make my own judgements so we’ll see about that. First, let’s see what the company has to say.

Product Claims:
“Talk about the complete package! Nothing delivers higher quality protein with more sensational flavor than the amazing new Supreme Protein bar. Unwrap one of these delicious muscle-building treats and you’ll be thrilled at how unbelievably good it truly is! The original Supreme Protein Carb Conscious bar is packed with premium-grade protein blend, powered by more high-quality whey isolate than any other product of its kind. This pure and powerful protein is unmatched in amino content, bioavailability and muscle-building benefits.

The only thing better than this unprecedented nutrient profile is its amazing gourmet taste. With rich chocolate, peanuts, protein crisps and caramel, you’ll want to double-check to make sure you’re not eating a candy bar. But don’t be fooled by the outrageous flavor. Supreme Protein? is first and foremost a remarkable high-performance super-food that delivers the quality nutrition you need to achieve serious results from your training or fitness program. Powered by ultra-pure, premium-grade whey protein isolate, these amazingly delicious sports bars represent the ultimate combination of flavor and function.”
First Impressions:
Looking at the ingredients, I have to say it’s mostly all good shit. To start off, the first item on the list is whey isolate (nice) and there is also some concentrate and milk isolate. But I’m not too worried since you are required by law to state the ingredients by their amount, therefore the first ingredient is what it’s mostly comprised of, and in a protein bar I expect to see high quality isolate.
Then we have chocolate coating, sugar, coca powder soy lecithin, peanut butter (for the peanut butter flavored bar), powdered sugar, maltodextrin, salt, water hydrolized collagen, soy protein crisps, vitamin mix, flaxseed oil, potassium sorbate.
Looking at the nutrition label, there were 2 major disappointments. First, is the 30 grams of carbs. Ahem, I thought this bar was supposed to be “Carb Conscious”… 30g is not conscious, more like “carb aware”. If I were talking to someone from Supreme Protein, I’d tell them to change that retarded name. I wouldn’t mind the 30g of carbs if the bar was named just “supreme protein” but the fact that it’s marketed as carb conscious kind of defeats the purpose.
Next would be the sodium in the Peanut Butter & Caramel Nut flavors. 270mg and 300mg respectively. OUCH! 300mg of sodium? That’s kissing the edge of ridiculousness, there is absolutely no need for so much sodium in one bar, I mean how did they manage a measly 135mg for the cookies and cream version? Was it magic? If so… Supreme Protein Inc. needs to wave their fucking wands around and lower the amount in the other two bars back to Earthly levels.
But besides these 2 little quirks, everything else looks good. The sugar is 10g in the peanut butter flavor and even less in the other two that I received (caramel nut chocolate had 4g and cookies & cream had 7g). Protein is a solid 30g in all the bars, me likey very much.
Real World Results:
Ok let’s get right to the point, we don’t buy protein bars because of perfect nutrition (although it is nice to see Supreme Protein partially excel in this department), we buy them for their taste and convenience. That’s it. If you didn’t care about taste than the extremely inexpensive whey protein concentrate powder from trueprotein.com should float your boat. But most of you DO care about taste, so it’s time to take a bite out of things.
Before I begin, I must mention that the rep from Supreme Protein told me to “close my eyes” while eating these bars since they taste so good. Fearing this would turn into a cheesy Herbal Essence type commercial, I decided to skip that advice and just dive the fuck in. First flavor…
Peanut Butter Crunch
The sweetest one out of the bunch. Biting into it is very satisfying yet easy because it’s quite soft and chewy but the soy protein crisps provide that crunch factor that I so crave. It’s also very moist and I loved that because most protein bars are chalk-dry. So far so good.

I would have to say that the sweetness of the bar edges on the realm of “almost too much” but it’s still manageable. See I rarely eat candy bars, and if I do happen to have those once in a while it’s usually something like Bounty® or Kit-Kat®. For most of you that are reading this though, I doubt your taste buds will be overwhelmed. But mine were. Still, like I said it’s manageable and I was able to finish the entire bar. The peanut butter itself was also gooey and satisfying… and you all know I’m a massive PB fan.
I wanted to sum up this bar in such a way that it gives you a vivid idea of what it tastes like, and here’s what I came up with. Take Reese’s Pieces®, a Wunderbar® and throw some crispy & crunchy bits to top it off and you have a bar that mimics this magnificent creation. The Peanut Butter Crunch gets a 4/5 from me. Let’s move on.
Cookies & Cream
The initial bite feels similar but that soon changes. This bar is probably half as sweet as the peanut butter one (which I liked) and it’s also got these dark cookie bits which remind me of Oreos. Awesome. The only thing is that this bar DOES have a slight aftertaste to it… it’s a lil bit chalky but it’s not that bad, you can easily get through the bar without much complaints.
Another thing about this flavor is that because of it’s slightly drier texture, it doesn’t get stuck to the roof of your mouth like the peanut butter one. It’s much more free-flowing in your mouth and you can finish it a LOT quicker. Overall, it’s not bad but I would say that the C&C is more of a “make or break” flavor. People with either really like it or really hate it. If you’re a C&C fan I doubt you’ll be disappointed, the mild chalky-ness is easily over-looked, but personally I’ll give this one a 3/5.
Caramel Nut Chocolate
I saved the best for last. I really wanted to LOVE the peanut butter one but I couldn’t because it was just too sweet for my ‘buds to handle. This bar though, the caramel nut chocolate one, hits everything home for me. It’s sweeter than the C&C bar, but not as sweet as the peanut butter one, it’s more moist than the C&C bar but not as moist as the peanut butter concoction so although it might get stuck to the roof of your mouth from time to time, its very manageable. This bar is the perfect compromise.

Even it’s chewy-ness is the perfect consistency… truth be told, the only thing holding it down is that 300mg of sodium. Still, if I had to buy any one of the three flavors with my own money, I would suck it up and get the Caramel Nut Chocolate. Hands down. This bar gets 4.5/5.
Conclusion:
Ok so these bars are backed with solid nutrition (almost) and also taste great. Actually I’d go as far as to say that the Supreme Protein Bars are one of the best tasting bars on the market today. In fact, they taste BETTER than some candy bars I’ve tried in the past and that’s quite the accomplishment. But before we wrap this bitch up, there is one factor we need to consider… cost.
At $19.99 per box of 9, you’re looking at $2.22 per bar. This is a bit on the high side but then you also need to consider the weight, the protein quality and the amount. Most of Supreme Protein Bars are anywhere from 86-96 grams, which is bigger than most of the 50-70 grammers that you see, and let’s not forget the 30g of quality protein which is mostly isolate so IMO, you are getting good value for your money. This is the perfect example where you truly get what you pay for.
Although be warned, anything more than $2.50 is a RIPP. I went to a local supplement store near my house the other day to see if they had any boxing deal specials on protein (I won’t mention the name but it sounds similar to Gee, Nancy) and saw these bar priced at $3.99. Are they out of their fucking minds? Four bucks for a bar? I’ll four buck their face!
So in conclusion, as long as you are NOT paying $4/bar, I think that Supreme Protein Inc. has a sure winner on their hands. I give it an overall 4.2/5 stars.

Hi,
I am using the Supreme Protein bars as a dessert in my weight loss program. I am using a modified Atkins dies ... 30 carbs a day max and keeping within the calorie, fat, sodium, etc levels recommended by both heart and diabetes charts (I don't have either hear or diabetes problems), plus I add in a little of all of the food groups recommended by nutritionists ... I just try to stay relatively low carb and high protein.
According to Atkins, you only count net carbs, so you take away sugar alcohols and fiber from the total carbs and you have you net carbs. The large bar of peanut butter crunch is 10 net carbs for the whole thing and 390 calories. I break up a large bar into 4 pieces and have 1 piece in the afternoon for a snack and one piece in the evening for dessert. So, with the peaanut butter crunch bar, I am only using 5 carbs of my 30 per day and I feel like I've had a candy bar!
My all time favorite is the carmel nut crunch. However, beware you do NOT buy the ORIGINAL if you are low carb. You must make sure the label says CARB CONSCIOUS.
Including these bars in my daily diet has helped me not cheat! I think they have helped for sure and I would highly recommend them (1/2 a large bar per day) to anyone on a diet. I am losing weight like crazy and haven't really added much exercise yet because of a car accident (leg, shoulder & neck injuries)
